FAQs

What ages do you train?

We train youth athletes of various ages and ability levels, as well as adults interested in performance-based training. Program availability may vary by age group—please contact us if you’re unsure where your athlete fits.

Do athletes need prior training experience?

No. Our programs are designed to meet athletes where they are. Beginners and experienced athletes alike benefit from structured, coach-led training focused on proper movement and progression.

What sports do you train for?

Our training is sport-agnostic. We focus on building speed, strength, agility, and coordination that translate across all sports, including soccer, hockey, lacrosse, basketball, tennis, and more.

How are sessions structured?

Every session follows a consistent structure that includes a dynamic warm-up, speed and agility work, strength and conditioning, and a focused finish. This ensures athletes train safely, efficiently, and with purpose.

Is this safe for young athletes?

Yes. Safety is a top priority. All training is age-appropriate, coach-supervised, and focused on proper technique, movement quality, and gradual progression.

How many athletes are in each session?

Typically 10-30 athletes. We maintain coach-to-athlete ratios that allow for individual attention while still creating an energetic group environment.

What’s the difference between the daily rate and the monthly membership?

The daily rate is ideal for first-time athletes or occasional sessions. The monthly membership is designed for athletes training consistently and offers the best value and opportunity for long-term progress.

How often should my athlete train?

Most athletes benefit from training multiple times per week. Our coaches can help recommend an appropriate schedule based on age, sport, and goals.

What should Each athlete bring?

Athletic clothes, sneakers or cleats, a water bottle, and a good attitude!

Coach Francis Mulkern

I’m Coach Francis Mulkern, a former collegiate soccer player at Merrimack College with a background in Sports Medicine and Pre-Physical Therapy. I spent 10 years coaching with the Boston Bolts, and most recently coached a team where 19 of 23 players went on to play college soccer.

I created The Athlete Lab to provide structured, intentional training that builds strong, fast, confident athletes. Physical development is the foundation of what we do, and we also place emphasis on reinforcing the mental side—work ethic, discipline, confidence, and resilience—to supplement training and help athletes handle the demands of competition.

Coach Chris Nelson

Chris Nelson is a former collegiate tennis player at Quinnipiac University, where he competed at the NCAA level and developed a strong foundation in movement, speed, and competitive performance. Prior to college, he was a standout tennis player at Scituate High School, earning All-Scholastic honors and serving as team captain.

As a coach at The Athlete Lab, Chris brings a disciplined, detail-oriented approach to training, helping athletes improve agility, coordination, and confidence through structured, purpose-driven performance work.
